P-51 Mustang Build Thread - Page 1

These pages will show the building of my own Comp-ARF P-51 Mustang over the coming months. I'm not the world's fastest builder

nor do I have a huge amount of time to build so please bear with me regarding the updates to these pages!!

I have chosen to model "Gunfighter" - Click HERE for a gallery of the full size

Starting with a box of 'parts' the hard work is done for you. How special this bird ends up depends on the amount of hours you want to put in!

The first day was spent cutting out most of the fuselage openings beginning with the cockpit frame....

Then the main cockpit area was removed. I recommend you leave a lip of 10mm all round the cockpit opening as shown...

Next up was the opening for the tank/equipment/access bay...

Then the radiator air scoop...

Then the front air intake...

Next were the exhaust stack outlets....

And finally, because I wasn't looking forward to them, were the lower front side air vent holes!! I started out by drilling small pilot holes at the centres of the final holes and used a dremel sanding cone to slowly open the holes up to the desired size. Came out pretty well I think. Then I did the other side!

I also cut the front section out of the cowl..
